Minister of Justice: "Practical results of the fight against corruption must be visible for the public"

Today, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Artak Zeynalyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Armenia Judith Margaret Farnworth.

The Minister attached importance to the partnership with the United Kingdom and noted that the recent events in Armenia resulted in willingness to work in a consolidated and coherent manner.

The Ambassador congratulated Artak Zeynalyan on being appointed to the office of minister, highly appreciated the level of relations established with the Ministry of Justice and, on behalf of the Government of the United Kingdom, reaffirmed the support to effective governance in Armenia.

In his turn, Minister Zeynalyan ascertained that the projects planned with the United Kingdom will be implemented in the light of the new changes that have taken place. "We will do our best to not only rule out corruption in practice, but also make sure the results of the fight against corruption are clear to see for the public," the Minister emphasised.

During the conversation with the Ambassador, Artak Zeynalyan also confirmed the determination to make amendments to the Electoral Code and related laws before the snap parliamentary elections. According to the Minister, it is necessary to maintain and enhance the success achieved in the electoral process and rule out electoral bribe as a means of shaping will. "We must also reinterpret the participation of observers in the electoral process, ensuring impartiality and targeted participation of the latter in this process," the Minister noted, adding that the processes of appealing are very effective in the electoral processes and that the amendments must be aimed at filling this gap as well.

During the meeting, the Minister of Justice also touched upon the problems of the judiciary, capacity-building of the State Probation Service, the fight against corruption, as well as the activities aimed at making public services more accessible for citizens.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on co-operating, indicating the spheres of partnership and taking active steps to improve those spheres.
