Kristinne Grigoryan participated in the discussion on Women's Achievements and Women's Empowerment in the United Arab Emirates

Today, Deputy Minister of Justice Kristinne Grigoryan participated remotely in the discussion on Women's Achievements and Women's Empowerment in the United Arab Emirates and presented the progress recoded after the velvet, non-violent revolution took place in Armenia in 2018 in the field of gender equality and human rights, as well as existing challenges.

In particular, she touched upon the significant progress recoded by Armenia in the adoption of the legislation on combating violence against women and the policy adopted by the Government of the Republic of Armenia aimed at empowerment of women both nationally and internationally. In this context, Kristinne Grigoryan attached an importance to the fact that the Republic of Armenia became a member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in 2018 and the strategies approved by the Government for the protection of human rights, as well as the prevention of trafficking and the identification of victims of trafficking.

Touching upon the participation of women in politics, Deputy Minister Grigoryan presented the statistics on the representation of women in the National Assembly, informing that the legislation of the Republic of Armenia envisages 25% of quota system for women in the National Assembly, while the participation of women in the parliamentary elections in December 2018 exceeded the legislative quota, comprising 32%․Currently, women represent 24% of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. "The executive power is also taking steady steps in this direction; although, out of 12 ministers, only 1 is a woman, however, we used to have 11 women deputy ministers since 2018," — the Deputy Minister noted, also informing about the political decision to involve women more actively in the context of the police reforms.

Afterwards, Kristinne Grigoryan touched upon the challenges faced by women during the COVID-19 pandemic, the actions taken by the Government for overcoming them and the upcoming plans.
