On the 8th of September, Minister of Justice Karen Andreasyan met with the leaders and representatives of extra-parliamentary political forces and discussed with them a number of issues related to the constitutional reforms.

Leader of the 5165 Movement Karin Tonoyan, leader of Sovereign Armenia Party Davit Sanasaryan, leader of the European Party of Armenia Tigran Khzmalyan, leader of the Christian-Democratic Political Party of Armenia Levon Shirinyan, Chairperson of the Social Democratic Hnchakyan Party Central Board Sedrak Achemyan, as well as representatives from the Conservative, Alliance Progressive Centric, Citizen’s Decision Social Democratic, Bright Armenia, Free Democrats, Fair Armenia, Azatakan and Democratic Party of Armenia political parties participated in the meeting.

Minister Andreasyan expressed his gratitude to the attendees for accepting the invitation to the meeting and for their willingness to gather around a table for the most important issue uniting all the political forces — the constitutional reforms, and to have a dialogue in a constructive logic.

There were three main issues on the table of discussion — how to change and reinterpret the composition and activities of the Commission on Constitutional Reforms, and in which format to move forward, selection of the form of governance and merger of court instances, including appropriateness of the establishment of the Supreme Court through the merger of higher courts, or the merger of Appeal and Cassation Courts.

The attendees expressed their initial positions on the topics suggested.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement to continue discussions in such format was reached.
